PS Vita

Monster annual dinner tonight and I won 5th prize of their lucky draw. A nice Japanese PS Vita with 1GB Memory Card with RM849. Nice. !! Unfortunately there is no homebrew CFW to play Vita backup games. Not yet anyway. So I need to decide to either sell it or keep it. Most likely I'll keep it.

But not all good news today. I cut my skin next to my lips while shaving. And then I did profanity p probably the dumbest thing to do during that situation. I applied UNDILUTED DETTOL on my facial skin!!!! I didn't know at that time but I not have some reddish patch on that part of the skink applied the dettol!!!!! Arghhh now worried about scarred tissue since I burn my skin. And on my face some more!!!! It was still burning when I got home. Did some checking online

Dettol diluted or undiluted should never be used on face or as a body wash. The change your skin has undergone should be an irritant reaction to dettol. It will burn facial skin by oxidation reaction.
I advice you to use morning times moisturizing cream like ELOVERA. Night time use, Mommate-G contains Momentasone and Gentamycin.
I advice you to see dermatologist they will prescribe you an antibiotic (doxycycline) and Levocetrizine to decease the itching. From the picture it appears to be just superficial injury and it will heal without scar but still i advice you to see dermatologist.

Update : my cut healed. Thanks to ben. He recommended me to use betadine which worked like a charm.

Also I decided to sell my vita back in December. Hardly any games and the fact that I not only need to pay to buy original games, I had to invest in getting Sony overpriced proprietary memory card. After lukewarm response for my [WTS] ad on lowyat.net forum I managed to sell to nice Malay chap for rm620. Transaction went well as he came to my house to collect. Hope he's enjoying the vita :)

New resolution for year 2014

2014 is fast approaching. To be truthful, I haven't really done anything this year that I haven't done before. It's time to act.

One thing I've discovered about myself. I will tend to re-act in response to pressure and pain. Or basically the desire to avoid them. There are two ways of motivating myself. First way is to have the desire to achieve something be it a goal or dream, and the other is to do something to avoid a crisis or loss. I tend to feel motivated more with the latter. Pain and suffering is something I try my best to avoid and the emotion associated with it is very strong. That reminds me of Habit 2 from Stephen Covey's excellent book 7 Habits of Highly Successful People. It's time for me to get back into the 7 habits planning. It worked for me back in 2008 and it will work for me again 5 years later.

Time to put on my thinking cap to work on my 2014 goals !

The main things I will be tackling next year :

1. Building the body I desire
2. OSCP education and exam
3. Career advancement
4. Love Relationship. 
5. increase Positive Income by Investing

3S of Bad Luck

Woke up 6am today. Checked Dortmund vs Real Madrid Champions League semi-final 1st leg on my S2. Was disappointed to find out Real Madrid lost to Dortmund 1 to 4 goals. Lewandoski scored 4 fantastic goals!

After that went to the gym. While doing my HIIT on the treadmill, noticed my shoe's lower sole thin layer peeled off a bit. Continued running till the whole piece came off!

After gym, went home, ate my breakfast and started my journey to work. Drove into cyberjaya area, then noticed the traffic light near Lim Kok Weng building turned red. Normally it'sgreen all the way. I guess they changed it. So i braked and stopped there to wait till traffic light turn green. Looked at my rear mirror, saw this silver myVi (still far behind) was driving fast and all of a sudden braked and nearly crashed the back of my car!! The driver was some young Indian lady. She honked me after braking! Never mind, i just continued driving when the traffic light signaled green. Then she drove to the side my car and honked me again. Grrrrr. What an annoying person.

So 3 bad lucks so far today and it's still early. Told my good friend Locutus about and he told me its okay :-

Ang Lee: A Never-Ending Dream

"In 1978, as I applied to study film at the University of Illinois, my father vehemently objected. He quoted me a statistic: ‘Every year, 50,000 performers compete for 200 available roles on Broadway.’ Against his advice, I boarded a flight to the U.S. This strained our relationship. In the two decades following, we exchanged less than a hundred phrases in conversation.

Some years later, when I graduated film school, I came to comprehend my father’s concern. It was nearly unheard of for a Chinese newcomer to make it in the American film industry. Beginning in 1983, I struggled through six years of agonizing, hopeless uncertainty. Much of the time, I was helping film crews with their equipment or working as editor’s assistant, among other miscellaneous duties. My most painful experience involved shopping a screenplay at more than thirty different production companies, and being met with harsh rejection each time.

That year, I turned 30. There’s an old Chinese saying: ‘At 30, one stands firm.’ Yet, I couldn’t even support myself. What could I do? Keep waiting, or give up my movie-making dream? My wife gave me invaluable support.

My wife was my college classmate. She was a biology major, and after graduation, went to work for a small pharmaceutical research lab. Her income was terribly modest. At the time, we already had our elder son, Haan, to raise. To appease my own feelings of guilt, I took on all housework – cooking, cleaning, taking care of our son – in addition to reading, reviewing films and writing scripts. Every evening after preparing dinner, I would sit on the front steps with Haan, telling him stories as we waited for his mother – the heroic huntress – to come home with our sustenance (income).

This kind of life felt rather undignified for a man. At one point, my in-laws gave their daughter (my wife) a sum of money, intended as start-up capital for me to open a Chinese restaurant – hoping that a business would help support my family. But my wife refused the money. When I found out about this exchange, I stayed up several nights and finally decided: This dream of mine is not meant to be. I must face reality.

Afterward (and with a heavy heart), I enrolled in a computer course at a nearby community college. At a time when employment trumped all other considerations, it seemed that only a knowledge of computers could quickly make me employable. For the days that followed, I descended into malaise. My wife, noticing my unusual demeanor, discovered a schedule of classes tucked in my bag. She made no comment that night.

The next morning, right before she got in her car to head off to work, my wife turned back and – standing there on our front steps – said, ‘Ang, don’t forget your dream.’

And that dream of mine – drowned by demands of reality – came back to life. As my wife drove off, I took the class schedule out of my bag and slowly, deliberately tore it to pieces. And tossed it in the trash.

Sometime after, I obtained funding for my screenplay, and began to shoot my own films. And after that, a few of my films started to win international awards. Recalling earlier times, my wife confessed, ‘I’ve always believed that you only need one gift. Your gift is making films. There are so many people studying computers already, they don’t need an Ang Lee to do that. If you want that golden statue, you have to commit to the dream.’

And today, I’ve finally won that golden statue. I think my own perseverance and my wife’s immeasurable sacrifice have finally met their reward. And I am now more assured than ever before: I must continue making films.

A good friend of mine has been questioning if she should stop putting too much time and effort into her ambition and passion; and just concentrate on finding a high paying safe job.

I thought i should try to motivate her and hope to steer her into the right direction. Googled and found this:-

What i should have done today instead of rushing and acting on my emotions:-

a) Set a buy target, place my order, then exit browser

b) Dont change plan unless necessary.

c) Be patient and think rationally

Orange Sky!

I saw something special today. Had a nice lunch with Shiang Peng this afternoon. Got back home in the evening  about 5.30pm,, took a nice refreshing bath, turned on my PC to watch "Lost In Translation", a movie i've always wanted to watch a long time ago but only recently started to watch it because of Scarlet Johansson's brilliant performance in The Avengers. "Lost In Translation" turned out to be a very good & entertaining movie seeing a very young Scarlet Johansson playing her confused/lost character brilliantly. Pretty good chemistry with Bill Murray. During this time it started to rain with heavy thunder.

Anyway while watching the movie,I suddenly noticed outside my window that everything turned orange! I was puzzled at first since I've never seen anything like that before. I paused the movie, rushed down and saw outside my house that everything was orange as if it was a whole new world.  It was pretty cool and had an  atmospheric feeling to it. A rare occurence and it was my 1st time witnessing it. Some kind of a sign to me from above?

This day is definitely a day to remember......May 1 2012 :)
