Ala Carte Buffet Dinner At Munakata

I was recommended to this place by a friend so we went there to check the place out. It's along Jalan Sultan Ismail in the Life Center building.

Munakata serves japanese food but unlike the usual buffet style, food is cooked upon order so you can be assured that when the food comes, it'll be fresh. However if there are many customers, the order will be queued and you may have to wait awhile.

The waiter suggested that we pick more food on our 1st order to avoid the long wait. It turned out that we were the 1st customers to arrive and so the dishes arrived on our table rather quickly. They served us Chinese Tea while waiting for our food. I wonder why they served us that instead of Japanese green tea since it's a Japanese restaurant. I forgot to ask.

After 7pm i noticed the tables around us were fully occupied with customers (majority of them were Japanese).

Salmon Sashimi (31). I like this very much. Every slice is quite thick and tasted very nice. I'm a big Salmon fan :)

Salmon Sushi (30). Not bad as well. The Salmon was fresh and the rice was nicely done.

Age Shu-mai (22). Cant really go wrong with fried stuff. Nothing much to say about it except that it was too normal (like any other Siu Mai).

Unagi Kabayaki (17). Grilled Eel. The taste was just right. One of my favourite dishes at Munakata.

Edamame (5). Green peas baked to perfection. They were still warm & fresh when i ate them.

Soft Shell Crab Tempura (18). I love soft shell crab but i found the taste for this dish disappointing. Also it looked too much like tempura. They should just serve soft shell crab minus the tempura. What a let down.

Tempura Moriaware(20). Personally i don't like tempura but this one tasted nice.

Saba Shioyaki (13). Grilled Mackerel with salt. I found it too salty & the taste was mediocre at best.

Yakitori (25). Skewered BBQ chicken. I love this very much. Really delicous :)

Tori Tsukune Yaki (25). Skewered chicken meat ball. The taste was slightly above average. Yakitori was much better.

Enoki No Butter Yaki (8). Straw mushroom with butter. Thanks to the added butter, it was quite good.

The waiter came to us about 10.00pm to get our last order. So we ordered another set of their delicious Salmon Sashimi (which i think is their best dish).

Overall, the food was okay and satisfying. My friend said the Salmon Sashimi was good and better than Rakuzen but the other dishes were average. The bill came in and cost per person is about RM77.

We actually reserved a table at 6.30pm on Saturday. We arrived there early and I parked inside the Life Insurance building. Parking rate is RM3 per hour but if you go in after 6.00pm, they'll charge you a flat rate of RM9 (with a stamp from Munakata it'll be a 50% reduction = RM4.50). Unfortunately my ticket was stamped with an entry time of 5.55pm (according to my watch it was after 6pm) and so they charged me rm18 for the parking (more than 5 hours).
